yes, there are socialist libertarians.

you make some interesting points. you talk about how the myth of a perfect free market is false. well isnt the myth of a perfect regulated market false as well? especially being that we operate in a heavily regulated market, and that is the environment in which the gulf oil spill was created.

you do realize that the government has placed a 75 million dollar liability limit on BP and other oil companies right? this is not an example of the free market, yet the opposite. it is an example of big business using government power to benefit themselves. when companies know the are not personally responsible for their actions, they act in unsafe ways. if BP was fully responsible for any damage that happened, they would have acted in a much safer way.
its like this, if i was digging into the ground and knocked my neighbors house down, i would have to pay for the full damage i caused so i wouldnt just start destroying the foundation of their house. now, if i only had to pay a pittance worth of the damage i created, i would obviously act in a much more carefree way. why doesnt bp have to pay full restitution? is it because of the free market? if it was then i wouldnt have to pay for anything i destroyed either. it is because the government wont let people hold them responsible for what they do.

its also important to think about the fact that BP would likely not be as large or powerful as it was today to without government subsidies, regulations that keep competitors out of the market, etc.

in a true free market society, it would be impossible for their to be a monopoly, since anyone could enter the market. currently, to sell anything to anyone you need a government permit, need to pay tribute to the government to operate in the are they serve, need to pay taxes on employees, need to follow regulations, etc. that keeps competition from entering the market and big business loves that.

just remember, you are acting as if this oil spill occurred in a free market society, which is just not true in any way. the news and media try to act like we are in a free market society in an effort to expand government control and power, which they have been doing for the past 50 years. so if big government works, why did we have the oil spill? why did we have a recession? why did we get attacked on sept 11? these seem to be problem caused by government, not problems solved by government.

well those are my beliefs, but back to your original question, yes there are many forms of libertarianism, socialist libertarian, geo libertarian, anarcho capitalist, etc. heres a link

Whoa, that is a long rant, but I read about half of it.

I am a liberal with a libertarian streak; I think most liberals do. I agree with you that the free market generally guides the economy pretty darn well, but to treat the "invisible hand" as if it was one of the Laws of Thermodynamics is ludicrous. Psychology can have devastating effects on large economies, and some priming of the economic pump with government spending, and adjusting interest rates as appropriate to keep growth at a healthy rate, can smooth economic ups and downs and avoid calamities.

Check with your local city / town hall, many homes have been foreclosed due to past due taxes and they are a steal!

Also, call some local banks and ask what they have for inventory on foreclosed homes, you might get lucky.

Good Luck

i would suggest that you DO NOT sign any contract with the lender admitting that you owe the debt. that will put you in the situation where you are contracted and actually will owe them. there are ways out, and lawyers are not the way. they serve the courts and get paid along with the judges. just look for your own ways to win before looking at anything to do with attourneys.

As with anybody you owe money to tell them in advance if you can't afford to pay. They would far sooner have less over a longer period of time than to chase you up. Also don't say you can't pay your mortgage because you are off on holiday. In the UK if someone like this presenter gave this sort of advice a) he would talk down to you and b) if he was a lawyer or an accountant you would automatically suspect his motives! Americans are far more democratic about sharing knowledge.

In today's economic climate, the lender does not want another foreclosure on their books. First step should be to call the lender and see if you can work it out. If that fails, a good foreclosure attorney knows how to get the bank to listen. hud1.com
